Spotlight Light - Info for the Deck of Light
After you already know the story of Balandor the Guardian of the Wall, today we want to tell you some gameplay details about the deck and also its creation.
First of all, a little side info: The game has gone through many iteration loops since the starting shot of its development (around 2010). Relatively early it was clear that there should be 6 different elements (not spheres at that time). But for the first playful test runs we had to focus on 2 colors first. Those were Light and Fire. While Fire should be a very aggressive deck with damage, Light should be exactly the opposite: Defensive and characterized by counter abilities. Further game mechanics and strategy options were to emerge only in the course of the following years for the other elements (spheres).
Thus, the Light deck has slightly less complex game mechanics, but it is not easier to play with them. But for newcomers to the game, a recommendation goes out to the Light and Fire decks.
As mentioned earlier, the Light deck is primarily characterized by defensive mechanics. Units often have armor or block abilities, and spells prevent damage or heal previously lost lives.
Story-wise, the deck is based on the Triumvirate of Light: the union of High Elves, Dwarves and Humans. Their common goal is to protect the protected valley (or Valley of Light) from all invaders! But are their goals really so honorable and do they focus only on defense? No! Because they also have ambitions to expand their territory beyond the protected valley. Proactively, they launch colonization expeditions into the Mastodon Steppe or the Evergreen Forest. They also try to proselytize the faith in their goddess not always without violence. Thus, despite its defensive nature, the Alliance of Light has many open feuds and continues to fuel them.
The Deck of Light, like any other deck, has three heroes at its disposal. The Guardian of the Walls, which includes Balandor, are tasked with defending the passages into the protected valley. They are stoic melee fighters, equipped with throwing axes if necessary. They can also fall back on their powerful dwarf defenses, and in a dangerous situation they can increase their defenses to an extreme. They provide their owner with a wall gun as a player skill, which can be used to provide artillery support across the board.
The Paladina uses her goddess-given power to support her allies. Like the Guardian, she is a melee fighter, but can draw on the magic of light, which she can also use to damage and blind opponents. In addition, she gives herself and any allies near her an armor of light. The player is provided with a global healing ability.
The third hero in the bunch is the Archmage. This powerful mage has perfected draining power from the Sphere of Light. He can cast powerful spells and at the same time gives the player an additional essence with which to play cards.
That's it for the Light Deck. Do you have any questions? Then don't hesitate to leave a comment!
